The wild life week 2009 was observed here today by the Pilikula Nisarga Dhama Society at the Pilikula. On this occasion drawing competition and quiz on “wild animals and Nature” were held.

Inaugurating the week Mr. R.M.N. Sahai Managing Director of the Cashew Development Corporation said that the future generations will have to be given education on wildlife conservation as the conservation of wildlife will pave the way for survival of human race on this planet. He said more and more activities for children and youth in wild life conservation and awareness should be held from time to time. He appreciated the efforts made by the PNDS in this direction and appealed to the schools and children to make use of such initiatives. He said he only wished that such programmes reached all children irrespective of their age.

Outlining the functions of the PNDS executive director of the Society Mr. J.R. Lobo said that the PNDS has been organising this programme every year for the last five years and the response had been good. The children are exposed to various kinds of wildlife and conservation activities and the results have been good as the parents and teachers have conveyed that their children do take interest in subjects related to wildlife conservation.

Mr. H.J. Bhandary, Director of the Park welcomed and gathering. Mr. J.R.Lobo, Executive Director, Pilikula Nisarga Dhama spoke on the development of the Nisarga Dhama. Chairman of the PNDS and Deputy commissioner Mr. V.Ponnuraj presided over the function. Mr. S. Shanthappa Conservator of Forests and T.V. Mohandas Chief Conservator of Forests were also present.
