Mangalore Central Committee demands suspension of cops

01 October 2009

The Mangalore Central Committee has demanded the suspension of the personnel of the SP’s Special Squad who had arrested a few youth belonging to the minority community in connection with the Bantwal jewellery shoot-out case and then committed atrocities on them. The Committee has also demanded legal action against the erring cops.

In a press communiqué, the Committee has said so –“ The District administration must locate the house which has been purchased for the sole purpose of committing atrocities on youth belonging to the minority community. Ever since the BJP government came to power, police atrocities on innocent youth belonging to minority community has been on the rise as officials whose hands are sufficiently greased, do so with the sole intention of securing their positions. There is no scope for the Home Minister to say that there are ‘ unknown hands’ behind all thee incidents. It has now been proved that these are known hands itself. Therefore suitable legal action has to be initiated.”

“It has become also common for a few businessmen in Mangalore to receive threatening calls from underworld elements. But the department here has failed to bust such cases. The jewellery shop owners, instead of victimizing minority community youths by colluding with the police department with their money power, should request the police department to arrest only the guilty. The jewelers should not forget that the minority community too has a role to play in the success which they have achieved in their business,” the Committee further observed.
