05 October 2009

The one day convention of the Karnataka Electricity Board Engineers’ Association that opened here today called for the right use of electricity for it is a natural resource that cannot be stored but can be used for better purposes.

Inaugurating the convention state minister for ecology and environment, inland water ways and ports Mr. Krishna Palemar said Electricity was a natural resource without which the modern societies cannot run, hence everybody should own up the responsibility of using it for the right purpose and right applications. The electricity is produced by burning fuel and with the help of the water resources and it shouldn’t be used for wasteful activities.

Mr. Palemar said Karnataka's electricity scenario was looking up and soon the state will become energy surplus. There are already several eco friendly and environment friendly power projects being commissioned in the state and in next four to five years the state will have surplus energy which it can sell to other energy deficient states.

For stabilising the power quality in Mangalore Mr. Palemar said the government had sanctioned three different power grid receivers for Mangalore (sub stations) which will give better quality power to the consumers of power in Mangalore and Dakshina Kannada.

Managing Director of the MESCOM Mr. Sumanth who spoke on this occasion praised the work done by the engineers of the Karnataka Electric Engineers association and said the officials were efficient. He said that as an continued effort towards protecting the environment, MESCOM employees would reduce using the vehicles by 5 per cent this financial year.

Director of NITK Prof. Sandeep Sancheti speaking on the occasion said that NIT-K and the Central Power Research Institute, Bangalore, will jointly offer a one year postgraduate diploma course in domain electrical engineering for the serving electrical engineers.

State Energy minister K.S. Eshwarappa should have attended the function but due to the flood situation in his constituency he could not attend the function.
