Mangalore printing press shut down

One and only government printing press of Karnataka Coastal districts which is in Mangalore is finally shut down. Machineries have been shifted to Bangalore which was not in working condition.
Among 15 permanent employees, 2 have been transferred to Shimoga and 13 have been transferred to Bangalore government printing press.
Except a watchman at the shed outside, now no one is found at the building of printing press located in Yeyyady industrial premises.
There was no additional printing work. Total of Rs. 1.66 lakh spent for salary expenditure every month. It was tough to maintain employees’ expenditures with the current income earned by the organization, sources said.

Mangalore government printing press was started on March 24, 2002 by Printing and stationary department (Bangalore).

The organisation used to receive printing orders of text books from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, North Canara and other districts. Vasanth Yayyady, president of struggle committee, ‘Save Mangalore Government printing press’ has alleged that the reason for shutting down of printing press is carelessness of local people representatives. The committee has also demanded to take right action to find out the reason for the bad condition of government printing press.
